Goa Trek- Miramar Beach - Dona Paula - Ravindra Joisa Photography

Day two of Goa trek is more of a hike to get acclimatized and will be covering some famous tourists places – Miramar Beach, Dona Paula and many more. Soon after having breakfast we hiked starting from Youth Hostel camp site, continued to walk along the coastline at Miramar beach and a bit of climb till we reached the main entrance of Goa Raj Bhavan. We continued further to Dona Paula viewpoint and then back to base camp by bus. About eight kilometers of an almost flat walk. You get to see what local people do, what they sell, fishermen with their boats, birds, and a tourist place. Below map shows the exact route and places that we covered.

Starting from Youth hostel campsite, we took the road route via youth hostel till we reached shore. We could have started from Senior citizen’s park which is right next to our campsite, but because of the high tide we couldn’t get down to the shore. So, had to walk a bit further where we had enough space to walk. The place between Senior citizen park and Miramar beach is very much walkable in the evening when there is low tide but not in the morning when the tide is high.

We managed and continued till we reached Miramar beach which is more of a tourist place. You get to see few fishing boats and also lifeguards taking rounds in their jeep. Have fun at Miramar beach for a while and continue to walk for another 4.3 kilometers. As you walk along the 4.3 kilometers stretch, you get to see seabirds, gull, more colorful fishing boats, sailboats and a lighthouse far away. As you reach the end of the stretch is the red wall more like an old fort.

Take rest for a while, after which is a zig zag climb for 10 minutes till you reach the main entrance of Goa Raj Bhavan. The public will not have access to this place but right in front of the main gate is the viewpoint. You get to see the top view of the entire stretch of 4.3 kilometers that you just walked. On a clear day, it is worth capturing photos of the landscape.

Continue to walk along the concrete road as shown in the map above for another 1.5 kilometers till you reach the Dona Paula which is another famous tourist attraction. This place is usually crowded and you will find too many shops around. You may try water bike jet ski, sail boat ride etc. Enjoy the beautiful scenery from the viewpoint. There is a story behind this name Dona Paula which I’m not going to write about here and you can find the same on the internet.

Walk all the way back till Dona Paula police station/ bus stop. You can either go walking all the way back to base camp or go by bus. Day 2 was more of an acclimatization walk. That was day two of my Goa trek. The actual trek beings on day three and on day four in the western ghats where we enter the rain forest.
